United Kingdom
Import Rules
The rules regarding what can be imported into the UK depend on the age of the car:
* Any car over 10 years old can be imported. It will need to pass an MOT like any other car.
* Cars less than 10 years old and made before 1997. These will need an MOT and pass the SVA test. This is a test to see if the car is suitable for use in the UK.
* Cars manufactured from December 31st 1996. If over 3 years old these will need an MOT and pass the ESVA. This is similar to the SVA but is more stringent and cars will need a ‘model report’ to be imported.
If you are trying to import a car made after December 31st 1996 please make sure it has a model report:

Cost Calculator
Numbers only, no commas
- The exchange rate is always changing! You can put a different value in this box.
- Shipping depends on the size of vehicle! Example of £800 is for a Silvia S15. A Landcruiser may be £1,550 and an mr2 £675.
- The SVA test is required to make sure cars comply with various safety, emmissions and noise standards. If a car does not comply it cannot be driven on UK roads. There are 2 categories of cars:
- Cars over 10 years old. These do not need this test. (You can change the £500 on the calculator to ‘0’. The value ‘0’ must be entered for the calculator to work).
- Cars under 10 years old require a test called the ESVA. Cost depends on the model. Passing the tests is easier if there is a ‘model report’ for the car you are importing. You can read what model reports are available here.
