Import Rules

Note that we are fully conversant with sending cars to New Zealand. Don’t worry if the information on the government website looks daunting, as the process is actually quite easy.

Things to read:

To import a car to New Zealand and register it for road use it must comply with frontal impact regulations and emissions regulations.

Generally speaking for passenger cars this means 2000/1 build or newer

There may be an exception for ‘special interest vehicles’: Information here.

For general information on importing: Information here.

For information on importing from Japan: Information here.

Left hand drive cars generally cannot be registered for road use either: Information here.
